Roseann 鈥淐hic鈥 Canfora, Professional-in-Residence

Roseann "Chic" Canfora, Ph.D., joined the School of Media and Journalism as a Professional-in-Residence this fall. She was also a student at Kent State, starting in 1968, and is a survivor of the May 4, 1970, shootings.

The Kent and 秀色app communities can head downtown to go ice skating starting Nov. 20, courtesy of Kent Skates presented by AMETEK. This special attraction has been created through a partnership between the city of Kent, the 秀色app Hotel and Conference Center, the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Kent and Kent State.

Last Spring, the 秀色app Board of Trustees approved the Anti-Racism and Equity Institute, which creates an important interdisciplinary hub for faculty, students,鈥痵taff鈥痑nd community members engaged in race and anti-racism scholarship, activism and education. 鈥淜ent State is a university that is known for its activism,鈥 Carla Goar, Ph.D., director of the Anti-Racism and Equity Institute, said. 鈥淚deally this institute will serve as a hub for scholars and activists to come together to tackle issues and racial equity."

Students at Kent State Trumbull who are in need of food, personal items and clothing will now have more support from the university following Trumbull鈥檚 Care Closet official opening on Oct. 18. Trumbull鈥檚 Care Closet was created by the 2020-2021 Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and is set up as a fund that faculty, staff and the community can donate to. It鈥檚 goal is to provide necessities for students who can鈥檛 afford them.

秀色app held its annual Veterans Day Commemoration in person at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Risman Plaza on the Kent Campus.

Representatives from 秀色app and the city of Kent will hold a community meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 27, called 鈥淎 Vision of a Village鈥 to share information and answer questions about a new residential complex designed to integrate the city of Kent and Kent State, physically and programmatically.

Kent State alumnus Don Drumm, 鈥86, was featured in the Akron Beacon Journal for celebrating the 50th anniversary of Don Drumm Studios and Gallery. Using sand-cast aluminum to create his art, he has decades of experience using a foundry to create his artistic visions.

 Kent Skates will be a new, outdoor ice skating rink that will be free and open to the public. It will be open from Nov. 20 through Feb. 28. Use of the rink will be free, along with free skate rental.

Roseann 鈥淐hic鈥 Canfora, Professional-in-Residence

Roseann 鈥淐hic鈥 Canfora, Ph.D., is a Professional-in-Residence at 秀色app in the School of Media and Journalism, part of the College of Communication and Information. Prior to teaching at Kent State, Canfora served as the chief communications officer for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and taught high school journalism and speech. Canfora was also a student at Kent State, starting in 1968, and is a survivor of the May 4, 1970, shootings at Kent State. She graduated with her master鈥檚 in journalism and public relations and bachelor鈥檚 in English/speech. She is heavily involved in activism as well.
