During the COVID-19 pandemic, students in ÐãÉ«app’s College of Nursing have been employed in hospitals throughout Northeast Ohio, where they have honed their skills and observed healthcare professionals on the front lines.
ÐãÉ«app’s College of Nursing will welcome its first nursing cohort into the Ph.D. in Nursing revised program in the fall semester 2020.

Traumatic injuries are the third leading cause of death nationally and the first in Americans age 44 and younger, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Level I trauma rooms are intended to stabilize and save the lives of patients with the most severe traumatic injuries. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has awarded a $2.47 million grant to Sara Bayramzadeh, a ÐãÉ«app researcher, to help create trauma rooms that support staff in saving patients’ lives.
In the spring of 1970, two-time ÐãÉ«app alumna and registered nurse Pat Gless was a junior in Kent State’s inaugural nursing program. While in class on Monday, May 4, a professor rushed into her classroom and warned students who could leave campus to do so. Fifty years later, Gless now reflects on the events surrounding that tragedy and how they have impacted her life and nursing career.
University Hospitals and ÐãÉ«app are joining forces to address the ongoing nursing shortage in Northeast Ohio through a new nursing education initiative that will increase the number of baccalaureate-degreed nurses who enter the workforce each year.
