The awards program recognizes the outstanding work of AACN member schools to re-envision traditional models for nursing education and lead programmatic change.

The AACN Innovations awards, including a monetary prize of $1,000, are given annually in four institutional categories. Kent State has been selected to receive the 2012 award in the Public School without an Academic Health Center category.

ā€œGiven the complex work they do, nursesā€™ need to take care of themselves through self-care activities cannot be overemphasized,ā€ says Laura Dzurec, dean of Kent Stateā€™s College of Nursing. ā€œWe hope to see every U.S. nursing program adopt the strategies that we are emphasizing through our Care for the Caregiver program, and we expect thatā€™s exactly what might happen.ā€

The award was presented on Oct. 29 at the AACN Fall Meeting in Washington, D.C.

ā€œThe selection process was very competitive, so you and your faculty are to be highly commended,ā€ says AACN President Jane Kirschling in a congratulatory letter sent to Dzurec.

As a center for nursing research and education, Kent Stateā€™s College of Nursing is committed to advancing and applying nursing knowledge through excellence in undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs; nursing education that addresses a changing society; promotion of health; and enhancement of the nursing profession.
