As of Feb. 2, the ŠćÉ«app Museum has reopened to the public and is excited to announce its newest exhibition, āStitched: Regional Dress Across Europe.ā This is the first new exhibition to open in 2021. āĀŁ³Ł¾±³Ł³¦³ó±š»åā will be on display from February 2021 through December 2021, and it features 75 pieces exclusive to the museumās permanent collection.
This exhibition showcases common features shared by regional costume across Western and Eastern Europe, including examples from Norway, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Romania and Albania. Regional dress signaled the village or region from which a person came, and while it was designed to mark social and cultural differences, such as religious affiliation, gender, age and marital status, āĀŁ³Ł¾±³Ł³¦³ó±š»åā draws attention to the shared commonalities of the exhibition pieces rather than their differences.
āRegional dress has been a subject that I have researched extensively for the past decade, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to bring together these remarkable pieces into a single exhibition,ā said Sara Hume, museum and āĀŁ³Ł¾±³Ł³¦³ó±š»åā curator. āThe pieces are stunning, and I hope for the entire exhibition to be a visual feast.ā
