Communication Studies Student Leads Campaign for Alpha Xi Delta

Sorority Holds Fundraiser for Autism Research

Justina Kennefick, student in the School of Communication Studies, is contributing to a communications campaign as part of the Communication and Influence course, taught by James D. Ponder, Ph.D. The campaign is for a fundraising event benefiting Autism Speaks. The Beta Tau chapter of Alpha Xi Delta, one of ŠćÉ«appā€™s seven sororities is hosting an event to raise money for Autism Speaks. The event called ā€œXi Manā€ will be held on at 6 p.m. October 11, 2013 in Cartwright Hall at ŠćÉ«app. ā€œXi Manā€ is $10 at the door and is open to the public. There will also be a silent auction with big-ticket prizes, including a Michael Kors purse, a beauty basket worth over $400, and more.

Alpha Xi Delta holds this annual event to raise awareness and money for their national philanthropy Autism Speaks. ā€œXi Manā€ consists of sorority women and fraternity men performing skits and dances that incorporate Autism and Alpha Xi Delta. This year, the overall theme is ā€œXi Ninetiesā€ and all skits will relate to the 1990ā€™s.

Last year the Beta Tau chapter raised more than $23,000 for Autism Speaks. The show sold out and was a huge success. This year, the sisters of Alpha Xi Delta have a target goal of $30,000.

Parking is available outside Cartwright Hall at ŠćÉ«app.
